If you like the idea of your own blackberry hedgerow but don't want to shred your hands and arms come picking time, then 'Chester' is the variety for you!
'Chester' produces deliciously flavourful blackberries on spineless stems, making harvesting your fruit a pain-free doddle.
The fruits are preceded by the appearance of delicate, five-petalled flowers which are either white or blushed with pale pink.
Vigorous, hardy (like, practically bomb-proof) and with good resistance to pests and diseases, this blackberry really is a top performer.
Train your blackberry plant(s) between freestanding posts or against a wall/fence. This helps you more easily separate old and new growth.
