In our view, no sunny garden is complete without a proudly growing fig tree, and 'Sultane' is a variety that has every reason to be proud...
As fig varieties go, this is one of the more prolific croppers out there, and can be reliably called upon to produce generous quantities of deliciously sweet, purplish-brown figs with ruby-coloured flesh
This fig tree can sometimes produce two crops; the main crop (which is also the one you can - and should - rely upon year after year) occurs in the autumn. However, earlier on in the year, it might also produce what's known as a 'breba' crop if the weather conditions are particularly warm and favourable
Easy to grow and relatively cold hardy, this medium-sized tree (growing to around 5m) is a lovely option for those wanting to train a fruit tree as a fan up a south-facing wall
The deeply-lobed foliage and moreish fruits are highly evocative, instantly transporting you to a sun-soaked Mediterranean hillside (without the risk of lost luggage!)
